W.Y.S. = What's Your Story?
I like to listen. To people's stories and experiences. This is how I unravel (complex) issues and work on practical solutions.
For example, research into patient experiences, writing and publishing a children's book, developing educational materials and a teaching package about skin. This requires listening, to the target group, experts and patient representatives.
How can I help you?
Projects
I help patients (organizations) with research, applying for grants and developing educational materials such as the 'Skin at school' for primary school.
Children's book ichthyosis
Luke and the tiger is a unique book about a boy with the skin condition ichthyosis. An inspiring story for all children ages 3-7, at home and at school.
In-service training NP & PA
For Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners (MSc), I organize accredited courses on scientific research. Both qualitative and quantitative research.
What's my story?
As a scientist, teacher and mother of a child with a skin condition, I am passionate about contributing to improving the quality of care.
The stories of patients and their loved ones play an important role in this.
Do you want to know why I changed course in 2020 and quit my permanent job?
"Finally a children's book about ichthyosis! It is so important that children can recognize themselves in the world around them!"
Karin Veldman, president Association for Ichthyosis Networks, The Netherlands
"Jolien gave a workshop on 'Scientific Research' during the alumni day of the NP and PA master's programs. The workshop was highly rated by participants with an 8.5!"
Connie te Grotenhuis, Inholland University of Applied Sciences, The Netherlands
Is it possible to do it differently?
Whether you have a chronic condition, are a caregiver, family member or partner: you always want the best care and reliable information.
As a mother, I have experienced that this is not always available or could be better.
Here lies my motivation to improve education and information for patients and their loved ones.
By combining my experiences as a scientist, teacher and expert by experience, I can empathize with the issues, wishes and needs of different parties. I like to think out of the box and am not afraid of innovation.
I have extensive experience with qualitative and quantitative research in the Netherlands, Eastern Europe and Ghana. I also worked in higher education (>10 years), and supervised master students in training to become Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant in scientific research.
Would you like to work with me?
Are you a patient (representative) or healthcare professional? Do you have an issue in the field of research, education and/or information? If so, I would love to think with you.
